CLUBFACE GOLF: Fix your Golf Slice
Most golfers who slice need to learn how to properly release the club through the hitting area. Slicers consistently rotate their clubface in a clockwise, rather than counter clockwise, direction through their golf swing. This swing tendency opens the clubface at impact, imparting left to right spin, resulting in a golf slice. This is most often due to a poor set up and swing movement before impact. With practice, a golfer can retrain the muscles needed for proper club release.
Establishing a proper golf grip and setup and learning to swing the club with a square clubface position are important first steps in fixing a slice. Next we want to train the back of the left hand to rotate in a counter clockwise manner through the hitting area. This closes the clubface through the shot, a movement that may feel strange to a chronic slicer. But, in order for this release to work correctly, we must be in a position coming into impact to allow it to work. This means you must have a neutral grip, proper ball position and alignment, and swing the club with a square clubface throughout the backswing, at the top of the backswing, and coming down into the approach of impact. This will allow you to release the club properly -- and cure the dreaded slice once and for all.
Remember: If you control the clubface, you control the ball.
