CLUBFACE GOLF: Golf Swing Keys for Great Impact
When looking to improve your golf swing, you need to constantly strive to understand your swing flaws and then work to improve your technique. Breaking your golf swing down is vital to understanding where your weaknesses are and what improvements you need to make. ClubFace Golf feels it is important to break down your golf swing in order to appreciate the importance of certain individual movements. Learning to control your clubface is the most important golf lesson we can provide. Controlling your clubface allows you to control your swing and create great impact.
The first four movements of your golf swing we need to look at are the large, major motions that occur through the hitting area. Each one of these motions has its own unique function in helping to improve your strike of the golf ball. These motions help you control the arc the golf club is traveling on, the position of the clubface at impact and the speed at which your golf club is accelerating through the hitting area. These are the first of the movements you need to become familiar with because they are fundamental movements. Once you understand and have control over these aspects of your golf swing, we can move on and look at the others.
Golf Swing Keys 1 - 4
- Right Knee: Your right knee needs to be driving aggressively towards your target. This is the key to shifting your weight to your left side. Your right knee is a major factor in determining the arc that the club will be traveling on and where it will reach the bottom of your golf swing. It also helps in clearing the left hip.
- Left hip: Your left hip will have rotated/cleared to the left. This rotational motion is the main source of speed for your swing. It is also a major influence on the path that your club travels. It is important to remember to never shift your weight past the outside of your left shoe.
- Back of Left Hand: The back of your left hand should be flat and pointing directly towards your target, slightly ahead of the ball. We are hitting down, which helps compress the golf ball as well as control the position of your clubface.
- Right Heel: Your right heel should begin to rise up. This helps shift your weight to the left. Your right heel should be raised just slightly for shorter shots and more for the longer ones.
As you continue to grow as a golfer, you will be striving to raise your game to a higher level. As you become more comfortable with the game and your style of play, you need to begin to increase your understanding and attention to the finer details of your golf swing. Golf is an amazing game because the better we get, the more detailed our knowledge must become.
In the next four golf swing movements, we will discuss some more precise golf tips. The golf lessons we've put together for movements five through eight will begin to enhance movements one through four. The following golf tips will make the first four more correct and complete. Try to incorporate these motions into the ones we have already discussed.
Golf Swing Techniques 5 - 8
- Ball of Right Big Toe: You should feel a definite pressure through the ball of the big toe of your right foot and into the ground. This pressure sensation adds a lot of support to your overall golf swing movement. A great ClubFace Golf tip - feel the ground. This is a critical leverage point for the rotation of your body through the shot.
- Right Ankle: Your right ankle needs to roll in and drive towards your left. The ankle leading, and not spinning, effects how your hips work in your golf swing. Never spin your right ankle away from your target. This move will spin your right hip out and throw the golf club out and over the top.
- Left leg: At impact, your left leg is in the process of straightening. It is still slightly flexed and completely locked just after you strike the golf ball. This move adds a lot of speed to the rotation of your hips.
- Left Arm At impact, the top of your left arm should be glued to the side of your chest. This is the one place in the swing where the term connection is completely relevant.
Golf Swing Techniques 9 - 12
The final four golf swing keys complete the process of a correct impact motion. These are the final pieces of the golf improvement puzzle. If all these moves are executed properly and in the correct sequence you will dramatically improve your strike of the golf ball as well as how you continue through to your finish. The team at ClubFace Golf likes to compare these golf swing moves to a talented orchestra. The goal of each individual piece should be to enhance the beauty of the complete group.
After you have studied the first 8 golf swing keys, begin to add these final golf swing movements.
- Right Elbow: At impact, your right elbow should be directly in front of your right hipbone. Your right hip supports your right arm allowing your hips, arms and golf club to work together through impact.
- Left side of face behind the ball: Your head does not have to stay completely still throughout the entire swing, but it must stay behind the ball until you've hit it. It is critical that your head remains behind the golf ball, because this will directly affect your release of the club.
- Shoulders slightly open: As your hips are rotating aggressively through impact, your shoulders are being pulled. At impact they should be just slightly open to your target line.
- Left shoulder rotation: Just as your left hip rotates through the ball, your left shoulder is beginning to rotate back. This is another element of your golf swing that increases the speed of your club head. This also helps your golf club travel on a consistent arc.
